Following a ‘daring’ escape from police custody, a wanted thief, identified as Mohd Waqar, has been apprehended due to the diligent efforts of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Harjinder Paul Singh from Chandigarh.

The incident, which occurred on the intervening night of January 24th and 25th, led to significant repercussions within the police department, resulting in the attachment of five police personnel, including the in-charge of the Narwal Police Post, by Jammu Police.

Escape and Recapture

Mohd Waqar, son of Noor Mohd and a resident of Choudhary Nar in Tehsil Rajouri, managed to escape from the custody of Narwal Police on the night of January 24th/25th. Despite his successful escape, diligent efforts by PSI Harjinder Paul Singh from Chandigarh led to the recapture of the fugitive thief.

Police Personnel Held Accountable

In the aftermath of the escape, Jammu Police took swift action by ordering a departmental inquiry into the matter. Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Vinod Kumar, issued orders to attach five police personnel, including the in-charge of the Police Post Narwal, to ensure accountability for the lapse. The attached personnel are identified as Harjitendra Pal Singh (in-charge), selection grade constables Shabbir Ahmed, Javed Ahmed, and Mohammad Rafiq.

Departmental Inquiry and Accountability Measures

The decision to initiate a departmental inquiry underscores the commitment of the police department to uphold transparency and accountability. Senior officials are keen on identifying any procedural shortcomings or negligence that contributed to the escape of the accused thief. By attaching the concerned personnel, authorities aim to demonstrate the seriousness with which such incidents are viewed and ensure that corrective measures are implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Restoration of Public Trust

Efforts to hold accountable those responsible for the escape serve not only to address the immediate incident but also to restore public trust in law enforcement agencies. The swift action taken by Jammu Police reflects their dedication to maintaining the integrity of the force and delivering justice to the community.

Conclusion

The recapture of Mohd Waqar and the subsequent accountability measures taken by Jammu Police underscore the importance of effective law enforcement and administrative diligence. As the departmental inquiry progresses, stakeholders anticipate further insights into the circumstances surrounding the escape, with a commitment to implementing necessary reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
