The Indian Navy recently conducted Exercise Poorvi Lehar on the East Coast, led by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. The primary objective of the exercise was to validate procedures aimed at assessing the Indian Navy’s preparedness to tackle maritime security challenges in the region.
The exercise saw active participation from various assets including ships, submarines, aircraft, and special forces. It was conducted in multiple phases, encompassing combat training in realistic scenarios during the Tactical Phase and the successful execution of various firings during the Weapon Phase. These activities aimed to reaffirm the Indian Navy’s capability to accurately deliver ordnance on target.
A significant aspect of the exercise was the operation of aircraft from diverse locations, which ensured near continuous Maritime Domain Awareness across the Area of Operations. Notably, besides assets from the Eastern Naval Command, the exercise also saw participation from the Indian Air Force, Andaman & Nicobar Command, and the Coast Guard. This highlights the high degree of interoperability among the different branches of the Indian armed forces.
Exercise Poorvi Lehar provided valuable lessons to the participating forces by subjecting them to realistic conditions, thereby enhancing their readiness to effectively respond to maritime challenges in the region.
The successful conclusion of XPOL 2024 underscores the Indian Navy’s steadfast commitment to addressing the growing security challenges in the maritime domain.
