In a significant administrative overhaul, the Jammu and Kashmir government today announced key changes in the leadership of the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE). The General Administration Department (GAD) issued two orders that will reshape the board’s top echelon during a critical period for the Union Territory’s academic aspirants.
The first order, No. 1197-JK(GAD) of 2024, appoints Prof. Gurvinder Raj Verma as the new Controller of Examinations for the J&K BOPEE. Prof. Verma, currently serving as the Incharge Principal at Government Degree College, Qazigund, brings a wealth of academic experience to this pivotal role. His appointment, made under Section 12 of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination Act, 2002, underscores the government’s focus on maintaining high standards in the examination process.
Concurrently, the second order, No. 1196-JK(GAD) of 2024, declares the immediate repatriation of Dr. Sunil Gupta, the outgoing Controller of Examinations, to the Higher Education Department. The order cites “the interest of administration” as the reason for this move, signaling the government’s intent to streamline operations and possibly introduce fresh perspectives. These changes come at a crucial juncture when thousands of students across Jammu and Kashmir are gearing up for professional entrance exams in fields like medicine, engineering, and management. The BOPEE’s role is paramount, as it conducts these high-stakes tests that serve as gateways to some of India’s most prestigious institutions.
