In a series of successful operations, the Samba Police have thwarted multiple attempts of bovine smuggling, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the rescue of twelve bovines. Three vehicles involved in the smuggling activities have also been seized in separate incidents within the jurisdiction of Police Station Ghagwal and Police Station Samba.

The first interception occurred at a checkpoint on the National Highway at Tapyal, where a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Ghagwal halted an auto-load carrier originating from the Kathua side. Upon inspection, two bovines were discovered inside the vehicle, cruelly bound and being transported illegally. The arrested individuals have been identified as Manjit Singh and Veer Lal, residents of Simbal Morh and Mokhey respectively. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act at Police Station Ghagwal.

In another incident, the Police Post Supwal intercepted a Mahindra load carrier attempting to evade inspection. Despite the driver’s attempt to escape, the vehicle was pursued and stopped near Barian. Five bovines were found in the vehicle, which had been loaded without proper authorization. While the driver managed to flee, a case has been filed against him under various sections of the IPC, PCA Act, and Motor Vehicles Act at Police Station Samba.

Lastly, near Sumb, the Police Post Goran intercepted another Mahindra load carrier, uncovering five bovines being transported illegally. The vehicle, registered under JK02BK-3880, was seized, and a case has been registered at Police Station Samba. These operations underscore the Samba Police’s commitment to combating illegal activities, particularly bovine smuggling, which poses a threat to both animal welfare and public safety. The successful interventions have not only resulted in the arrest of suspects but also ensured the safe rescue of twelve bovines. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining law and order in the region.
