The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has recorded a revenue collection of nearly ₹62 lakh in March—the closing month of the financial year 2025–26—following an extensive crackdown on ticketless travel and related violations. The drive not only boosted earnings but also underscored ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline, accountability, and transparency in railway operations.
Official data indicates that about 11,000 passengers were booked during intensive ticket-checking operations for traveling without valid tickets or indulging in irregular practices. The large-scale enforcement campaign was carried out across the division with a clear focus on curbing unauthorized travel and encouraging adherence to railway norms.
The success of the initiative has been linked to a ‘zero tolerance’ approach implemented under the supervision of Uchit Singhal. As part of this strategy, dedicated teams conducted systematic inspections at major stations and key entry-exit points, including Jammu Tawi railway station, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station, Srinagar railway station, Pathankot Cantt railway station, and Budgam railway station.
Special vigilance was maintained during the Navratri period, when passenger footfall surged significantly. Despite the increased rush, checking staff ensured strict enforcement, identifying and penalizing violators while facilitating smooth travel for genuine passengers.
Commenting on the development, Singhal noted that March typically presents operational challenges due to heightened travel demand. He appreciated the round-the-clock efforts of ticket-checking teams in maintaining passenger discipline and service standards, adding that the revenue generated reflects not only financial gains but also improved public compliance with railway regulations.
The division has urged passengers to travel with valid tickets, reiterating that ticketless travel is a punishable offence under the Railways Act, 1989. Travelers have been advised to use authorized booking platforms such as the UTS App, ATVMs, or the RailOne App for a hassle-free journey. The campaign is being seen as a strong example of effective enforcement, reinforcing the commitment of Northern Railway to maintaining efficiency, integrity, and improved passenger services.
