In a prompt and commendable response to the directions issued by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Anantnag District Police has established a dedicated helpline for terror-affected families, offering a much-needed platform for them to lodge complaints and seek official assistance telephonically.

The initiative follows the high-level meeting chaired by LG Manoj Sinha on July 1, where he expressed serious concern over the plight of families whose loved ones were brutally killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. The Lieutenant Governor directed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across the Union Territory to identify and reopen deliberately buried cases, register fresh FIRs, and ensure that jobs are provided on a priority basis to the Next of Kin (NoKs) of terror victims.

Taking swift action, District Police Anantnag became the first in the Valley to operationalize this directive, by launching a a to directly connect with affected families. LG’s move has been widely appreciated by civil society and local stakeholders, especially in a district like Anantnag, which has remained one of the worst-hit regions since the onset of Pakistan-orchestrated armed insurgency in the early 1990s.

“It is our duty to stand with the families who have lost everything to terrorism. This helpline is a step towards justice and support,” a senior police official from Anantnag told The Hidden News.

District Long Haunted by Terror

Like other districts of J&K, Anantnag has also borne the brunt of cross-border terrorism for decades. Most recently, in a heart-wrenching incident in April this year, 26 innocent tourists were gunned down by terrorists in Pahalgam, an attack that sent shockwaves across the nation. The massacre prompted the Indian armed forces to launch “Operation Sindoor”, a retaliatory offensive targeting terror infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC). Over 100 terrorists hiding in camps supported by Pakistan’s deep state were reportedly eliminated. In light of such continuing violence, LG Sinha’s directions mark a watershed moment in J&K’s governance approach—focusing not only on security but also on justice and rehabilitation for victims.
